I love installing standing seam metal roofs. Once they are locked in, they are virtually impenetrable. A good metal roof will easily outlast my time in this industry—we're talking 40 to 70 years. If you live in a high-wind area or a place prone to massive hailstorms, metal is a fortress.
However, it requires specialized tools and a highly trained crew to install it correctly. That's why the labor and materials will cost you 2 to 3 times as much as an asphalt roof.
The Case for Asphalt
